    By Bailey N. | Uncategorized | 0 comment | 27 May, 2021 | 0

When deciding where to retire and spend your days as a senior, there are lots of things you should consider. Your incomes. Costs of living. The closeness of your family. You want the best for the days that are yet to come. And why not? You deserved it. Though nowadays you can find anything on the internet, like tips on how to relocate to your dream state, we know that it’s hard for seniors to spend so much time online. So we did a little research for you and compared two of the most recommended states for retirees. So here it is. Alabama vs. California – where do senior citizens have bigger benefits?

    Alabama

Sweet Home Alabama is not sweet solely for young people. It is a safe state with an incredible historic charm. Crime rates are low, and so are the costs of living. Which always comes in handy. People are very friendly and helpful, especially when it comes to the elderly. Together with that, the state’s natural beauty and nice weather all year round are what attract people to retire in the Heart of Dixie. So if you decide to relocate, contact Park Moving Alabama, and find out everything you want to know about moving quotes and help.

    California

The sunny Cali. Though it’s a little more expensive, its sunny weather and closeness to the ocean justify it. Due to that wonderful weather, there are a lot of outdoor activities, and not just for the young and restless. And it is the second most ethnically diverse state, so you can enjoy different cultures and their cuisines. And it’s got some of the best places to retire. It is not called The Golden State for nothing.

Where do senior citizens have bigger benefits?

When it comes to moving, and spending your retirement, you want the best. That is why you should involve your family and ask them for help. Talk to them and get their opinion. In the end, they are the ones who will be helping you the most. Let them help you with your inner debate over Alabama and California. And help you find out what benefits you have in each one, to help you prevail. It’s sunny in both states, that’s for sure! So here is what we found out, and we hope it will help you.

    Population 65+

    Alabama

Total population in Alabama is 4.8 million people, of which around 15% are seniors over 65. So finding company won’t be a problem.

    California

With a total population of 38.7 million people, it is normal that the percentage would be somewhat lower. But at 12,9% it still ranks good as a state for seniors to spend their lifetime in. So far it’s a plus for both states.

    Costs of living

    Alabama

The costs of living in Alabama are 13% below the U.S. average. Also, there are a lot of discounts for seniors, starting with the food and grocery stores, and all the way to retail stores and golf clubs. So you can really make the most of the warm weather, and at a very low price. Talk about where do senior citizens have bigger benefits.

    California

Completely opposite to Alabama, California’s costs of living are 52% above the U.S. average. Although you can still get some discounts, on food and clothes, it doesn’t cut the costs so much.

    Average 65+ income

    Alabama

Compared to the State’s average, which is $53,799, household incomes are slightly lower, around $44,000. Which is still enough for a decent life as a senior.

    California

Although the seniors household incomes are well above national average, at around $65,000, having the second most highest living costs, you can hardly put something aside.

Health care costs for a retired couple

    Alabama

The costs of life extend to healthcare. With $423,523 being the national average, Alabama stands tall with costs of around $404,000. Once again, below average. Well 4,4% below to be precise

    California

Though once again above average, with around $430,000 in health costs, the state compensates it with various healthcare programs for seniors, such as Medicare and MediCal, that help seniors with disabilities, and seniors with lower incomes.

    Tax for retirees

    Alabama

Alabama is quite tax friendly. With income tax that rates from 2% to 5%, and social security benefits exempt, it is very seniors friendly.

    California

Sunny Cali imposes the highest state income tax rates in the nation. Except the social security benefits, retirement incomes are fully taxed. But there is one bright side – if you are 65+, you can claim an extra $110 claim off your tax bill.

Where, but also with whom you spend your senior age is very important.

    Transportation

    Alabama

Most communities in Alabama have their own public transportation systems, and many of them offer discounts for seniors over a certain age and for seniors with different disabilities.

    California

California also offers various ways of transportation with a discount, for elderly citizens and for citizens with various disabilities.

    Made a decision yet?

There are a lot of things to process, as we said, but if you choose the Cotton State to spend your happily ever after in, we just want to tell you to make sure to find all the help you need. With packing, unpacking, storing and moving. Maybe there’s no senior discount, but you’ll surely get through your move at a fair price and without stress.

    Westside or east side?

We compared the two states based on some basic life and household costs and incomes. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t a lot of other advantages and disadvantages. Other than where do senior citizens have bigger benefits. Where you want to spend your golden age is your decision to make. With or without the help of your family and friends, it’s up to you. One more thing we can help you with is to give you some tips on moving. But we’ll come to that once you decide. And wherever you go, we know that you won’t be disappointed.
