How to label your moving boxes

Relocating to a new location is always stressful. What you can do to minimize this stress is to stay organized during the whole process. The most important part is to label your moving boxes the right way after packing them. Also, the labeling system won’t be of much use if you just throw your stuff into boxes. Taking care of that mess will just cause you more stress during unpacking. Additionally, don’t mix rooms. For example, keep your kitchen stuff and bathroom stuff separate. Here are some more tips on creating an efficient label system

How to prepare for packing and labeling your moving boxes?

Labeling your moving boxes is not hard. Just think what packing supplies you will need. The first and most important thing is to get moving boxes. Make sure you get enough. There is nothing worse than having to scavenge for extra moving boxes at the last minute. Additionally, in case you are using second-hand boxes make sure there is nothing written on them already. This will save you from confusion later. If there is some writing on the boxes there is a simple solution to fix this problem. Just put your labels over the old one. You can even mask them with simple paper.

Secondly, you’ll need something to write with. The best choice is water-proof permanent markers you know and trust. This way you’ll ensure that writing on boxes won’t be damaged or smudged or even washed away. Besides markers, you can use moving labels. You can get them online, at the local movers or even make them yourself.

Make a detailed strategy for proper labeling.

Additionally, make sure that you label your moving boxes with fragile items extra carefully. This will make packing and moving fragile items easier. Also, you’ll reduce the chances of them getting damaged.

    Use colors

Here is how this system works. Assign a different color to a different room and use that color to label your moving boxes. For example, choose orange for your kitchen, blue for your bathroom and so on. This system is really easy to use and there are no chances of mix-ups happening. However, keep in mind that your movers won’t know what those colors mean. This may lead to some trouble once they start unloading the moving truck. To avoid this and reduce stress when moving, tape a piece of colored of paper to the door of the right room.

Create a numbering system for labeling your moving boxes

Another method you can use to label your moving boxes is a system based on numbers. This means you assign a different number to a different box. However, in this system, a packing list is a must. You have to write down which number belongs to which room. Also, write down the content of the box for easier unpacking.

Using numbers for labeling is also a good option.

Keep this list safe. Make sure you don’t misplace it during the move. If you do, you’ll have a hard time figuring out which box belongs to which room. Just to be safe, make several copies and keep them separate.
