List of items that moving insurance does not cover

    By Bailey N. | Before the move | 0 comment | 7 June, 2021 | 0

One of the first things to consider when hiring professional movers and purchasing moving insurance is what they will and will not cover. You’ll entrust your valuables to a moving company, and it’s important to protect your belongings. You’re purchasing moving insurance because you care about your items. But, some things are simply not insurable. So, here’s a list of items that moving insurance does not cover.

    Customer packed moving boxes

Moving insurance does not cover the specific contents of your boxes if you’re not hiring the perfect moving company to pack you and buying additional insurance. Moving insurance has several restrictions on items that aren’t professionally packed. There are two reasons why this happens:

    • There’s nothing to document the condition of the items at the origin.
    • No evidence that claimed belongings were ever owned, packed, and moved.

items that moving insurance does not cover – Jewelry

Both movers and moving insurance partners can’t provide coverage for jewelry. So, don’t put your jewelry in a moving truck or storage. Instead, keep them with you. However, if you’re moving locally, you have another option. You can store your jewelry in a safety deposit box at your bank until you settle in. But, maintain a photo inventory of your jewelry pieces.

    Medications

The next thing your insurance will not cover is the loss or damage medications. So, after you learn how to sort and pack the bathroom when moving house, put them in one box and keep them with yourself.

    Antiques and fine art

Sentimental and priceless items are difficult to insure because it’s difficult to determine a value, repair, or replace them. Also, these items are sensitive to temperature changes and humidity variables in moving trucks. So, if you have fine art, special collections, memorabilia, get them appraised before the relocation. Then, consider hiring movers that specialize in high-value items.

Many movers provide warnings that they aren’t responsible for damage to MDF furniture. It’s simply because they are so prone to breakage. This is the furniture that arrives in pieces and you need to assemble it once you arrive at your new home. MDF furniture isn’t strong enough to sustain the transition process. Therefore, you need to move them in pieces. Of course, movers can transport these items, but keep in mind that there is a good chance they may fall apart during the process. So, this is what to expect when movers pack for you the MDF furniture. But, for best results, make sure you disassemble these items to the smallest pieces before the move. Also, make sure you protect MDF furniture from any moisture through the move because it can fall apart if it gets wet.

    In conclusion

Most people don’t realize that moving insurance may not cover loss or damage to your possessions while relocating. Yes, moving puts your belongings at risk, and insurance might help protect them if things go wrong. But, you still need to know what are items that moving insurance does not cover.
