Most common injuries during a DIY move – Back injuries

No part of your body feels a relocation as much as your back. Even people in great shape may experience back injuries while moving boxes and furniture. So, DIY amateurs can hurt their backs easily. It’s a serious injury because it can affect your overall health. However, you can avoid it by learning how to lift appropriately. That means you’re lifting with the strength of your legs while keeping your back as straight as possible. Also, it’s important to know your limits when it comes to lifting and carrying heavy items. Learn what are tools you must have for an easier move and make sure you have them to prevent injuries.

    Knee injuries and sprained ankles

Rolling an ankle or injuring a knee on moving day is much easier than you’d think. First of all, no joints work more than knees during a move because of all those boxes you need to lift. Plus, it takes just one misstep where you can’t see where you’re going, and you can twist your ankle or bang your knees. You can avoid these injuries by buying knee braces and pads and wearing the right shoes. Your best options are mid-weight work boots or some tennis footwear with a good grip. Also, make sure you clear a wide path for moving belongings to reduce the risk of trips and slips.

    Cuts and scrapes

Packing and moving by yourself may cause cuts, scrapes, and bruises. Most of them are minor injuries you just need to clean and cover. But, sometimes the cut can be more of a gash that needs a few stitches. So, be cautious. The best way to avoid this happens is by wearing pants and long-sleeved shirts. Also, it’s recommendable to wear gloves as often as possible, especially when dealing with glass or mirrors.
