Moving from California to the Midwest

    By Bailey N. | Moving destinations | 0 comment | 14 August, 2019 | 0

In most cases when someone is moving, the change of environment comes with (small or large) emotional difficulties. Leaving the home where you’ve spent many years of your life, where many beautiful memories were created and that was your safe haven for so long, isn’t easy. And if you’re moving to another part of the country, that is different both in terms of weather/geography and culture, that can be even more difficult. Luckily, there are many things to like about the American Midwest, that you can’t find in California. At least some of these things are bound to appeal to you. So, don’t worry – moving from California to the Midwest can turn out great for you!

The beautiful Chicago cityscape, that you'll maybe experience every day after moving from California to the Midwest.

Chicago, Illinois, as well as other attractive cities in Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Missouri, and Wisconsin, all await you in the Midwest.

Don’t make an already stressful move even harder to pull off

As we said, due to the (almost drastic) change of environment, moving from California to the Midwest can be very stressful. There’s also another important factor – moving by itself is also a very stressful process. There are a lot of things to think about and a lot of things that could go wrong. And even if everything goes smoothly, there’s also a major time investment to endure. Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, or you’re feeling extra adventurous, we’d certainly suggest hiring high-quality movers, such as wolleymovers.com, to assist you with the move.

If you’re feeling stressed out because you’ll be moving, the added stress of organizing the move on your own can be very hard to handle. If you’ve already moved before, then you know how hard it is. On the other hand, if you’re sure that you can handle it, then you can attempt to do everything by yourself. However, we’d definitely suggest hiring good moving assistants based in River North to anyone who is moving from California to the Midwest.

Moving from California to the Midwest

After you’ve (probably) avoided the risks of DIY moving, you can dedicate some of the time you’d spent organizing the move to overcome initial moving anxiety. Yes, it’s usually hard to leave your home, but hopefully, some of these great things about Midwest will make you feel more optimistic.

    Great people

A very good way to adjust to your new surroundings is to go out and meet new people. Luckily, Midwesterners are generally amazing! Of course, there are a few bad seeds everywhere, and social opportunities in the Midwest may require you to spend some time while getting used to these specific people. After all, the people living in California and the people living in the Midwest differ significantly.

    Three smiling and friendly-looking girls.

Good people will welcome you with open arms after moving from California to the Midwest.

While Californians are generally busy people, very much concerned with the “rat race”, the people from the Midwest tend to be a lot more peaceful, honest, friendly, and down-to-earth. Simply put, most of them are warm people with strong ethical beliefs. They highly value family and community. If you’re used to the people from California, at first this may seem strange to you (if it’s not instantly refreshing). btc bookmakers However, this doesn’t mean that the Midwesterners are boring and that they don’t know how to party. Realize that chances are high that soon you’ll meet some of the best people you’ve ever met, and you’ll be one step closer toward beating the fear of long-distance moving.

    All kinds of weather

After moving long-distance from California to the Midwest, you’ll get to experience different weather than what you’re used to. In California, it’s all “Sun, Sun, Sun (and then some more Sun)”. While many people (rightfully so) love living in a sunny area, this can become monotonous after a certain period of time.

On the other hand, in the Midwest winters are actually winters, and the summer doesn’t last all year long. Unfortunately, this diversity doesn’t come without a price. If you hate cold weather you’ll need some time before you adjust to the Midwest, as winters there are very cold. Still, we believe that this change of pace, although unpleasant at times, is essentially a good thing.

And if you love warm weather, you’ll love it in the Midwest during the summer. That’s because there are so many amazing natural attractions there to see. Serene lakes in Michigan, the beautiful Chicago River, waterparks in Wisconsin, and many, many wonderful parks – you name it, the Midwest has it!

    Fascinating cities

If you like cities, then you probably already know that the Midwest is full of interesting cities to visit. It doesn’t matter if you won’t be living in one of these cities. If you can, we strongly suggest taking the time for a road trip. Visiting the best cities in the Midwest could make for an adventure of a lifetime!

    Detroit, Michigan.

Move to Detroit, or at least visit it – you’re bound to have a good time.

Here are some cities that are especially worth visiting:

    • Chicago, Illinois. The people of Chicago are generally young (under 40). However, even if you’re older than that, you’re bound to meet someone interesting on your road trip. That’s because Chicago can boast with having a great cultural and ethnic diversity. Museums and a great art scene exist there as well.
    • Kansas, Missouri. This city offers lots of different opportunities for most things you can imagine. Farmland and beautiful nature on one side, and concerts, museums, theaters, an opera, and so on, on the other.
    • Detroit, Michigan. This was once a strong industrial city, that has fallen into decline. Luckily, things are looking up economically and Detroit is once again a great place to live in. That’s not what’s most interesting about this city, however. Namely, it has an extremely rich musical heritage. Many of the punk and soul legends have lived and worked there. Their spirit still lives on in Detroit.
    • St Louis, Missouri. Another city in Missouri we’ll mention has an unjust reputation for high crime rate. However, that is all prejudice. Sure, crime does exist there (like practically anywhere else in the world). However, you shouldn’t worry, as the prominent thing about this city is its amazing food!

    Low costs of living

Finally, after moving from California to the Midwest, you’ll realize that you won’t need nearly as much money as you did before. That’s because the Midwest offers low costs of living, no matter the state or the town. In fact, according to some respectable research, Ohio is the most affordable state in all of the USA. What’s more, other states such as Nebraska, Missouri, and Indiana are also among the least expensive states in the country. The Midwest offers a great quality of life, as well as highly affordable prices. So, don’t worry – we’re sure that you’ll adjust in no time and that you’ll love it in the American Midwest!
