Moving into your new home: expectations vs. reality

    By Bailey N. | After the move, Before the move | 0 comment | 27 April, 2021 | 0

Moving into your new home can be an exciting experience when starting a new life chapter. However, we usually focus on the end result, forgetting that there is a long and hard way from the idea of moving to unpack your last item. There are plenty of things to prepare before the actual relocation, especially if you’re moving for the first time. Here are some most common moving expectation misconceptions.

“Packing is the main thing when it comes to moving”

Wrong. If done the right way, packing is one of the easiest things when it comes to relocation to your new home. There are plenty of things to do weeks before you start packing in order to avoid any possible moving problems. From change of address and other paperwork that can take a while to find a recommendable moving crew, and actually start to pack, there is a long way. It would be advisable to start with preparations at least 8 – 6 weeks before the move.

“I will save money if I make a DIY move”

Wrong. Hiring a reliable moving company is crucial especially if you don’t have any moving experience. It may look like you’ll be saving money, but you will be investing a lot of time and physical labor into your move. That could actually cost you more than letting professionals do it. No to mention potential financial losses and possible risks of a DIY move, especially when it comes to damaging your valuable items or jeopardizing your health.

    “Moving companies are expensive”

Partially wrong. Of course, hiring unreliable scam moving companies who overcharge their clients is a bad idea. However, there are amazing moving services out there, if you know where to look before moving into your new home. One of the best websites that could help you with your move is verifiedmovers.com. They provide the best information when it comes to the affordable and recommendable professional crews in your area.

“I will think of possible problems and upgrades after I get there”

Wrong. Making sure everything is in order before you move to your new place is crucial since you want to avoid any extra expenses. The previous owner has disconnected from the internet and possibly the basic utilities are in question if the place hasn’t been in use for some time. Make sure to check the property has every essential thing you need before you start packing.

“It’s just moving. How can that be stressful?”

Everything that requires a lot of your time, thinking, and physical activities burn a lot of energy. Not to mention the factor of relocation to the unknown while leaving everything and everyone you love behind. We often underestimate a million little things that turn into one big problem – stress. It usually sneaks up on you when you least expect it, and before you know it, your mental and physical health suffers. But when you accept the fact that you are just a human being who needs to take better care of yourself, you can explore different methods to reduce the stress while moving into your new home, in order to preserve your health.
