Moving musical instruments – how to do it right?

    By Bailey N. | Specialty moving, Top tips for moving to Beverly Hills | 0 comment | 24 December, 2019 | 0

Moving musical instruments seems like a giant task when you have to tackle it. However, it doesn’t have to be that way at all. The only thing you need to do is to be aware of what are you going to move. Some instruments require a different approach than others. Therefore, you will need more time to relocate some of them. However, there are basic guidelines that you should stick to, and they apply to pretty much all of the instruments. Here’s what you need to think about when relocating your precious collection.

Time is essential when moving musical instruments

If you moved ever in your life, you know that this process takes time. You shouldn’t rush it as all kinds of things can and will go wrong. This applies especially if you’re moving to California for work, and you work with your instruments. What you should do is to take as much time as you can to plan and prepare your move to the details. Also, be sure not to underestimate the time that you will need to finish this task. You may end up feeling trapped and that’s something that no one wants. So, make a comprehensive list of things that you need to think about and that you need to do.

The things you need to include on it are:

    • Where are your instruments at the moment
    • Where are you moving musical instruments
    • Do you have suitable cases for all of them
    • Can they all fit in one truck
    • Will you be able to do everything by yourself
List of things to remember when moving musical instruments.

Every successful move starts with a comprehensive list.

    Don’t cut any corners

One thing you need to understand. Relocating musical instruments is not a cheap thing. It has never been, and probably never will be. Therefore, if you get an offer that is too good to be true – it probably is. Quality comes with the price and you shouldn’t try to save money when moving something of such a high value. Get as many quotes as you can and choose one that works the best for you. However, this also means that you’ll need time to do this. No tips for moving in a week will help you if you forget about comparing quotes.

Another big thing to remember is to check if everything is included in the move. There have been cases when quoting that moving company did cover relocation just partially. The last thing you want to happen is to pay everything and then realize that you need to take that piano down two sets of stairs while moving company is responsible for it only during transport. However, the risks of DIY moving are even bigger.

Always check what is included in the price of the moving company when moving musical instruments.

    Packing of your musical instruments

And the last place where you must not cut any corners when moving musical instruments is packing. How you pack it can vary depending on the size of the instrument in question. For those that are small enough that you can carry them around, their cases will do. However, for bulky and heavy instruments packing has to be extensive. Be sure to protect every single piece of them before you load them onto the moving truck. Also, it’s not a bad idea to make sure that your chosen company has already moved instruments similar to those you have in the past.
