Top challenges of moving from Miami to San Francisco during the winter season

    By Bailey N. | Before the move | 0 comment | 6 February, 2023 | 0

Moving from Miami to San Francisco might be a bit challenging. But if you prepare yourself and know everything about the possible difficulties you can do this like a pro. Who in their right mind would subject themselves to the ordeal of moving during the winter? Carrying moving boxes and all your household belongings outdoors is less than ideal when there are poor road conditions and chilly temperatures. At least, that’s the general consensus. It’s good news we have some great tips for you. Even when it’s freezing outside, relocating can go smoothly if you take the appropriate strategy.

Let’s start with the first challenge you will encounter

During the colder months, there is less available housing for rent or sale. That’s because fewer individuals are relocating. Competition may increase or decrease when individuals move to or away from a region, but your options will still be limited.

Start your search early and be prepared with the necessary paperwork. Avoid making any large purchases (like a new car) right before filing for a house loan or mortgage. That way you get to keep your credit score as high as feasible. If you need to, take scouting excursions so you aren’t scrambling to find a place to live right before your planned relocation.

    Weather conditions

This is something you already know. If the roads are icy the relocation can quickly become dangerous. That’s why you have to look at your weather app ahead of time. If you see that the conditions will be bad along the way, you should employ professionals to help you. If you have experts by your side everything will be much easier.

If the weather is problematic, employ movers

After all, they are the ones with the necessary experience and most importantly – equipment. You shouldn’t ask your friends to do the heavy lifting if the weather is problematic. It could be dangerous. Employ skilled people to help you.

    Thunderstorms can be very dangerous.

    Plan ahead your route

While the colder months bring sledding, skiing, and brisk walks, there are some less pleasant elements to Old Man Winter. Keep an eye out for thunderstorms that could make driving across mountain passes or at high elevations dangerous if you have a long drive ahead of you. If your trip will cover a significant distance, it is in your best interest to have several backup plans ready. You may map out the fastest path (avoiding mountains) and the safest one (along southern highways). To save time, effort, and energy, plan ahead for a smooth transition.

    Are you moving around Christmas?

Even though it’s quite likely that you already have plans to spend the holidays at home with family and friends, if you were thinking about moving around Christmas, you should probably rethink that decision. Because at that time everyone else is moving as well. It can get quite hectic. Movers have less flexibility, and it may be more difficult to find the right company for you. No one wants to do all that packing around the holidays.

This is the worst time for relocation but sometimes it’s unavoidable.

You will need an early start because the days are shorter now

The longer days in the summer make it convenient to take your time preparing, packing, labeling, and unloading the truck, making the season ideal for relocation. You should, however, prepare to start somewhat early in the day in the winter. It would be ideal right as it gets light but sometimes that’s not possible.  Be prepared the night before your trip. Prepare yourself by having everything packed and ready to leave as soon as you wake up. You can save time and energy by sleeping on air mattresses for example the night before the relocation instead of beds. To save time, don’t disassemble large pieces of furniture until the moving truck arrives.

Prepare both your homes before the relocation

Compared to other times of the year, winter is the messiest. Even though Miami never gets too cold it can be muddy and problematic.  Items brought in and out of the house by movers (or volunteers) might bring in a variety of unwanted elements like filth.  Help them transfer things out and in quickly and easily without worrying about the floor getting scratched or stained by laying some cardboard boxes or better yet some plastic drop sheets.

If your new home contains hardwood floors, you must take extra precautions. You need to prevent the floors from being damaged by the increased humidity. Turning off the heat in your old home is another thing to think about while packing up to move. If you leave the heat on for several hours and the doors are constantly opening and closing, you could waste some energy and money. Turning off the thermostat is the best option until the relocation is finished.

The same goes for the bathroom. You should keep some space heater on in there as a courtesy to your helpful friends, family, and professional movers. Be sure the electricity and the heat will be on when you move in by giving the utility company a quick call to confirm.

    The ultimate question

The ultimate question here is – do you need to hire movers when moving from Miami to San Francisco? You could DIY it but it is not necessarily the cheapest option. It is definitely not the fastest option. Movers like getmovedtoday.com have the necessary experience to do every little detail of your upcoming relocation quickly and safely. That’s why most people decide to go for movers. But, it’s up to you ultimately.
